Tree Sculptures
Located at the south end of the car park, take your time to view the striking Monterey Cyprus tree sculptures, featuring historical elements of Ringwood, the history of the Ringwood Primary School and our native fauna.
These unusual and creative pieces of artwork were developed following the necessity to cut down the trees for public safety. Rather than remove these trees fully, they became a feature of Maroondah Federation Estate.
This was achieved through working with the Ringwood Historical Society and the local community. Three themes were decided on and outlined, before the trees were carved by Rod Jones and Kevin Gilder (with community assistance).
The first tree on the left features the historical elements of Ringwood. You can see a miner and an orcharder, symbolic of the use of land. Old Ringwood Town Hall and the Clock Tower are also present; both distinct elements of Maroondah’s history.
The tree in the centre is representative of Ringwood Primary School’s history. Both nursery rhymes and books can be seen. The lady on top of the tree is a representation of Daisy Paddock, a notable teacher and nurse within the school community.
The final tree on the right is a depiction of our native fauna within Victoria. A kangaroo, an eagle and many other animals can be seen around the tree.
These trees are just some of the many special features that can be enjoyed in the surrounds of Maroondah Federation Estate.
