The Maroondah Duck

In 2009, Maroondah City Council's Arts and Cultural Services team, in conjunction with artist Krissy Scherlies, conducted a community art project “The Maroondah Duck”.

During the Maroondah Festival on November 8, 2009, the community was invited to help decorate a large papier mache duck sculpture. Adults and children alike enthusiastically decorated cardboard gum leaves (an iconic Maroondah symbol). These leaves were then glued to the sculpture to look like feathers. The result was a vibrant and creative sculpture showcasing the Maroondah community’s collaborative talent. Those who participated in creating the duck were encouraged to think of a name and a competition was held. The winning entry named the duck Teeko.

Since the Maroondah Festival, Teeko and several ducklings have been undertaking a highly successful tour around Maroondah.
