R & M McGivern Prize
The R & M McGivern Art Prize is a national acquisitive award administered by the Trust Company and Maroondah City Council. The prize was established in memory of Muriel and Reginald McGivern and is a legacy of Muriel’s support of the arts in Maroondah.
The prize is held every three years at the Maroondah Art Gallery and awarded to an artist who submits an outstanding original oil, acrylic or watercolour painting. The prize-winning entry becomes the property of the City of Maroondah Art Collection.
The prize is provided by the Estate of the late Muriel McGivern, a local Maroondah identity. Mrs McGivern died on 29 January 2000 and a component of her will was the creation of the R & M McGivern Prize. The triennial prize was first awarded three years from the date of Muriel McGivern’s death in 2003.
The R & M McGivern Prize aims to promote artistic excellence in watercolour, oil and acrylic painting and build a high quality collection for the Maroondah region.
