Reconciliation Week
The local community was invited to participate in a range of free events and activities held during National Reconciliation Week. This program acknowledges the traditional owners of the Maroondah land, offers opportunities to learn about indigenous culture and heritage, and celebrates reconciliation amongst all Australians.
The 2011 program included:
Reconciliation Week Launch
An opportunity to come together to recognise and celebrate Reconciliation in Australia.
The event included:
- Welcome to Country and traditional Smoking Ceremony performed by Wurundjeri/Wandoon elder
- Official Flag Raising Ceremony
- Performance by Indigenouse didgeridoo player
- Guest speaker and performer Kutcha Edwards
Indigenous Culture Awareness Training Session
An opportunity to learn about indigenous Australia, Wurundjeri culture, sustainability and history as well as current issues facing the Wurundjeri people.
