Kate James – Letting Go

04 Mar 2010 - 10 Apr 2010 @ Maroondah Art Gallery

Having recently completed an artist in residency at Maroondah Federation Estate, Kate James continues her intriguing exploration into the nature of anxiety as expressed by both humans and domesticated animals.  Employing labour-intensive techniques, including tapestry, spinning, rope-making, horsehair hitching and hairwork, James creates unique sculptures and objects which examine and evoke feelings of fear, tension and dread, which are often closely entwined with her strong connection to animals.  These experiences are further explored in the artist’s photographic and video based imagery.
